It has been nearly a year since Virginie and I made our first trip to Vietnam and once again I find myself, (for the fifth time) aboard a Vietnam Airlines plane heading towards Hanoi.
The difference with the first trip is that this time I am with a client, who a few weeks ago also made the trip to Brasov, looking for a production site more interesting for him. I’m going to accompany them for a few days to this city that I love so much.
If we succeed in convincing them, we will be poised to win our original bet which was to have forty employees in Vietnam, before the end of 2009.
Shortly, we will start at least two platform projects. First, we did not have to look far when we decided to make Hanoi our own production center for management software, communications and marketing. With 400 employees today and a plan that will take us to 1000; we will need a lot of agility in implementing new management tools and marketing. Our internal production schedule is full for the next two years and for nearly 10 full time employees. Currently, our development was split between Iasi and Brasov. It will soon be in Hanoi.
Hanoi will also, within a short time, take over all the development in HR components sold to clients of the group. First, two of our customers will be sharing the same technological platform in a few weeks. At the beginning, we will have 5 employees who will join this cluster.
If we succeed with this customer who is presently with me, we might even exceed slightly, the goals that we had given ourselves.
But beyond these business objectives, this trip one year later is a very emotional one, when I think about all the history that has been written. Last year Virginie did not know Asia and she will be making her second trip in two months. Sophie, despite her history of doing a lot of traveling did not know this corner of the world and will arrive in Hanoi next Sunday. Seb Lupu and Ramona, after having spent several years living in France, they are now established in Vietnam and are making many new friends there. We have two Vietnamese colleagues in Romania, in Iasi, because of the transfer of which I mentioned earlier in this blog. Monica spent three months of great intensity in Hanoi. Aymeric went there and will soon return with Iulia from Brasov. Tuan came to Romania and Moldova, while Ion from Chisinau is presently in Hanoi for a month.
These adventures are a great opportunity for those who live them. I explained to the Ausy chairman and CEO the other day that ultimately these operations can not succeed without a huge investment in people, and emotional involvement. But frankly, it’s all worth it!
